I have been professionally involved in the automotive performance industry since 1988. My career started straight out of college when I started working for the California Air Resources Board at the Hagen Smith Lab located in El Monte, California. I was involved in all aftermarket parts EO(executive order) certifications and the alternative fuels section for six years.
During my employment at C.A.R.B., I was also building high performance engines and after two years started my own business specializing in these engines. I was then offered the opportunity of a lifetime to work with Louie Unser of the famous Unser racing family. At this point I made the decision to close my business and resign from my position at C.A.R.B. in order to work with Mr. Unser full time Unfortunately, my experience was short lived as Mr. Unser was diagnosed with MS. At this point, I ran the shop until Mr. Unser lost his battle with cancer. However, I am grateful for the two and a half years that I was able to work with him. The next step in my career brought me to Keith Black Racing Engines. I ran their engine dynamometers as well as fuel injection development for Blower Drive Service(BDS) and Harv's Performance. I was involved with these programs for a total of three years. I missed having my own shop and decided to reopen my engine building facility. I found my services to be in high demand since I was developing engine packages that would produce 1000 HP, idle at 750 RPM, and were fuel efficient while being controlled by a stand alone fuel injection system. At that time, I was building 48 engines per year and it grew into quite a healthy business. After four years, I found myself filling a large demand for marine engines and decided to relocate my business to Henderson, NV. This was very convenient since many of the off shore racing teams were based in nearby Boulder City and used Lake Mead as a testing ground. Recently I moved my business to a larger 8,000 square foot facility at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Here I have 5 employees, a chassis dynamometer, and of course, a clean room where we build custom engines. I have the capabilities to completely reprogram the ignition and fuel maps of the big three; GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Over the years, I have also grown to be quite familiar with many of the stand-alone and piggy back systems such as DFI, Accel Gen 6-7, F.A.S.T., Greddy E-Manage, A'PEXi, Harley Race Tuner, and Dyno Jet Commander, among others. I have also developed my own varieties of fuel injection control devices for custom applications for the automotive and motorcycle aftermarket industries. I pride myself in having a wide background in Research and Development of the internal combustion engine. This contributes to my knowledge and ability to build several types of racing engines including marine and endurance. I also keep myself involved in several forms of motor sports, including my own record holding drag racing. Another major key is my extensive background in electronics and analytical testing systems. I look forward to many more exciting years in this ever changing industry. |
